What I have on my Treo','

OK, with all the iPhone talk, you might think there is nothing left for the Palm Treo to do other than pack it all in and close the doors!  Well, although I have vented many times about Palm\\'s lack of innovation, and am waiting for that the Linux version of their software, I still find this device a versatile one with many valuable functions, and all at a very affordable price!  And its all those applications that makes it so.  A couple of years back when I was using my 650, I took the time to list my apps, and then I did it again when I upgraded to the 680.  So its been a while and that post no longer exists so I figured it was time to once more list what is on my Treo, and what it does, and if easy to grab, where you can grab it.  So,l here we go!

  • Back Up Buddy :  Its set to back up every night at 3:00AM.  I actually had to restore once from work when something very bad happened. Nice!  If you ever need it once, you will know its worth the money it costs!
  • Bible Reader : I actually use my Treo with Bible Reader at Church!  This app is awesome!  Navagation is simple and quick! It has the ability to add notes and split screens!  Very handy!  I highly recommend!
  • Boopsie :  I call it Google for the Treo! I use this app often and find if very handy for finding information.  And it just keeps getting better!  The price is right (free) and I use this over similar apps that I paid for!
  • Chatteremail :  What all mobile email should be!  One of my favorite Treo apps!  And just a brief reason why:  I have access to IMAP email, and use 4 IMAP accounts and two POP3 accounts on this device!  I pretty much manage all my mail from my Treo!  Oh, long responses get my laptop nod, but for quick responses, I love chatter.  I have folders set up and move mail around from my Treo and it moves them on my IMAP server.  Plus, I have each account set up for its own tone and vibration so I know which account just got mail without even looking!  Also includes a summary screen so I can see all accounts from one view! Speed? Well, usually when you send it, I get it on my Treo within about 30 seconds!  Usually quicker than I get it on my laptop!  Awesome App for the Treo!
  • CorePlayer :  Very slick app to allow you to play movies on your Treo!  Not perfect, but as far as playing movies, it does it and they look GREAT!
  • Directory Assistant :  This one is a great app!  But I admit, since Google Maps has come along, I don\\'t use it as faithfully as I once did!  But for phone  number look ups, or driving directions, this is still a very solid app!
  • Docstogo :  This app is really killer for the Treo!  How cool is it to be able to open and edit Word, excel, powerpoint, and read .pdf files all from your Treo? Very handy!
  • eReader : A must have for e-books!  If you like to read, grab this one!  Also, google free ebooks and see what treasures you can find!  Many great classics are available in the public domain!
  • GoogleMaps :  This app rocks!  Its not a gps, but its the next best thing!
  • Gridbike : A simple game that for some reason, I keep playing.  Nothing fancy, but challenging and fun
  • GroupText : No one can deny Palm\\'s very slick interface for texting!  But what if you need to send a text message to multiple persons at the same time?  This is the app to get it done! I use this one often to get word to the guys in my band about possible gig dates!  Very powerful and handy!
  • GTS Racing : I love racing games!  And this one is the best one I know of for the Palm OS!  Great graphics and game play!
  • Hardball : Very good break-out game for the Palm Treo!  Several levels and nice to look at!
  • IBM Java : Its not officially supported for the 680, and Opera\\'s mini web browser won\\'t run on my 680 with it, but I have been able to get it to run in limited fashion, without crashes.
  • IM+   This app is much more stable on my 680 than it was on my 650!  And its very cool!  I love being able to open it up and chat with my buds at anytime!  I also love it that Twitter allows me to use a chat instead of all my text messages so I can stay in touch with my tweets without eating into my texting plan!  Pretty versatile as I can do MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, AOL, Googletalk, and jabber all at the same time!
  • Keteo : A freeware weather program.  Not on my device long and although works, its not very impressive.  It does give you a quick 10 day graphical view but not any kind of detail
  • Little John Palm :  Remember all your favorite Nitendo and Sega games?  Guess what?  You can play them on your Palm Treo!  You need this app and then google nintendo game roms!  Most of them free!  I love this app!  Mario never looked this good on my TV screen!
  • Mundu Radio :  This is pretty cool!  You build your playlist on the web, install the software on your Treo and then stream music to your treo anytime you have a connection!
  • Newscopier : A freeware newsreader: Its OK, but can\\'t compare to Quicknews
  • Obfuscate : Lets face it: there are icons that come on your Treo that you might use once, but you can\\'t get rid of them without building or installing a custom rom . . .  Enter Obfuscate! Yea, I added one more icon that I rarely use!  But I got rid of about 7 that I never used!  Its free, its small and makes my Treo much nicer to look at!
  • PdaNet :  This is the type of app, that I don\\'t use that often, but man when I do, it is so cool!  Last weekend, the band was playing down in middle, TN.  We left the GPS at home and no one had a clue as where this place was!  So I pulled the laptop out as we are driving down Interstate 40, logged on to the internet using my Treo and PdaNet and got directions while we were driving down the road!  Its not broadband, but its faster than a standard modem!  Well worth the money!
  • pTunes :  This is one very cool app for playing your MP-3\\'s!  And it also allows you to stream music to the device!  You can build your own play lists as well as customize your sound with eq\\'s.  This is a must have for the Treo owner who also loves music!
  • QuickNews :  Another one of my favorites for the Treo!  This is one solid app for retreiving newsfeeds and pictures from my favorite sites. I use this app almost every day!  It can update over the air at a set time, or through hotsync! Also downloads podcasts!  The best newsreader for the Treo there is!
  • Quickipedia : This little app allows you search Wikipedia for topics and then sends them to your Treo!  Pretty cool, but for some reason, any more I use Boopsie\\'s interface to accomplish this task!  Still yet, this is a nice app
  • Resco Viewer : For viewing photos, you will not find a better photo program for the Treo!  This thing does slideshows, and can even play music in the background why the slideshow plays! Its includes some editing capability and an explorer view!  A great app for pictures!
  • RingoPro : This is a great app for playing mp-3\\'s as ringtones.
  • Scrabble : This board game translates to the Palm OS really well.  I love it! And so does the wife.
  • Snap : If you see Palm screen-shots on this site, they were created with snap!  It is easy to set up and pushing a button creates a bitmap image of the screen.
  • TCPMP :  The freeware version of the Core Player.  Works great but the commercial version is much prettier to look at!
  • Treo Alarm : I love this app!  It gets me up every morning!  It turns the phone off every night!  It grabs the latest weather at set times that I determine!  Right now, its free! The developers are re-working this app, but I am telling you, this is one that I use multiple times a day!
