The Built-in IM app for the Palm Treo is incredible! Its the app that Apple and Blackberry should blatantly copy! The way that replies fall into the "chat" window interface is just so awesome, so its easy to track history of the texting thread! About the only thing missing from Palm's text app is the ability to text to a group. And thats where the freeware app "grouptextmessaging" comes into play. I have used this app much in the time I have had it on my Treo. Basically, you build a distribution list, then you select it, type your text and hit "send". Just a heads up, those replies default to Palm's OS chat interface, but if you need to get a message out fast to a large group, its hard to beat "GroupTextMessaging.
Another thing that is really cool about this app is that you can text to phone numbers and also to email addresses. So basically you have an easy way to cover several bases in getting a message out in a hurry!
One word of caution. Sending an IM from GroupTextMessaging say to 300 people means that you just used 300 messages . . . It doesn't just send one message, but rather sends 300 messages! For a free app, this is a very handy item to have on your Treo! That is, if you have to send text's to a large group.
