Well, I didn't name it, but I sure do like it! Think of Boopsie as google for the Treo! You open it up and you see several categories. Boopsie "mobilizes" several things that you might use the internet for. Train schedules, zip code look-up, Encyclopedias, Dictionary, Wikipedia, Celebrity photos, yea this thing is one handy application!
PIck a Category and explore further. Boopsie is quick and easy to download to Palm OS Treo, but also supports WM06, Java or BlackBerry mobile device. Best of all - it'sFREE! The honest truth: I have Quickipedia installed on my Treo, but I prefer Boopsies Wikipedia interface over Quickipedia! What impresses me more than anything is the speed at which Boopsie finds things that you are looking for. Its doesn't work like your typical search engine. . . . For example, I wanted to do a celebrity photo search for 60's icon Bob Dylan. By the time I had typed in "Bo" it started returning results. And by the time I had typed in "Bob Dy" it started narrowing those results, and surprise! Bob Dylan was one of the top choices.
Selecting one pulled up a photo of the guy!
Typing "wea" took me to Wunderground Weather. And typing in my zip code took me right to the latest weather for my zip! Very handy! But as I have already mentioned, this app is awesome for its Wikipedia implemention. For this example, I typed in "boxer" looking for information on the breed of dog "boxer." Bam! There it was and clicking on it, brought me to a page giving me the history of the breed along with pictures!I really can't say enough about this app! It is one of the handiest apps I have on my Treo and I find myself using it often! The cool thing about it, is that it just keeps getting better! If you get used to using its "find" (not search) feature, you will find you don't even need to scroll to the category! I have used similar apps in the past (quickipedia, 4info) but this one is the most flexable and by far the fastest I have used to pull information quickly using the Treo and its limited EDGE connection! So if you want to grab it for you Palm OS, WM06, Java enabled Phone, or blackberry device, simply point your phone's browser to http://boopsie.com/dl and install it! If you like it, how about dropping back by and letting me know!
UPDATE: After bragging about what a great app Boopsie is, I got this from the developer!
We are going to release our version 2 product in the next week. I thought I would send you a sneak peek before we release. You can download it from (removed link since it isn't offcially released . . Sorry) from your Treo browser. We've added some 'color'' and some extra cool features. We dynamically populate the Menu entries with things pertient to the channel you are on as well as the particular item you may have highlighted. For example, if you go to CitySearch Silicon Valley and type ' - you'll find the Tied House Restaurant in Mountain View. If you arrow down to that entry and then choose the Menu - you will see things like "Download listing", "Search from here", "Directions to here", "Click to call", etc. You can also have the menu pop-up by taking your pointer stick and clicking on the little arrow to the left of any entry. Another cool feature is if you go to your Treo browser and enter http://boopsie.mobi, you can also click on any of those icons to launch Boopsie to that particular channel - for example Wikipedia English. On the Palm, it's a little clunkier than on a Blackberry, Sybian or WinMo device. After you click on the icon, the Palm will prompt you to open it and gives Boopsie as a choice. Select Yes, then Save and Open. It will launch Boopsie to the right channel. We provided that interface for the more 'graphically inclined' - personally, we like the faster list interface. You can also use Boopsie from the desktop by going to http://boopsie.mobi and choosing a particular channel or All Channels. So, you can use the same interface from your desktop in it to view Wikipedia articles, etc. By the way, not sure you knew, but you can type just a few characters of each word to find the entry. So, for Bob Dylan, you could have typed "bo dy" Thanks again for your enthusiastic review! Sincerely, Greg Carpenter FounderBoopsie - Why search when you can FIND!
