So what is PdaNet? Well, its an application for the Treo that turns your Treo into a wireless modem. Basically, anywhere you have cell service, you have internet service for your laptop with this app! So with today's tech, and all the internet cafe's with wireless access, is PdaNet even necessary? Well, for me, it is! I love this app! Now, let me say, I don't use this app often. But the times that I have needed it, have made it will worth the price! Installation is a two-step process. You install the driver on your laptop and install the app on your Palm Treo/Centro. So your somewhere and need to access the internet, but there is no wireless access. You simply hook up your Treo, and hit connect on the Treo's screen. Or if you have a bluetooth enabled laptop, you can access with no wire involved! Now, how cool is that? Its not broadband speed, but its faster than dial up and beats the heck out of no internet access. Its rated to do 192 kilibits per second, and I don't think I have hit that fast, but its certainly fast enough for email, or simple surfing! I have had PdaNet installed on two Treos and used it countless times, and it has never let me down. The only thing I have to remember is to shut down Chatteremail as it doesn't want to connect with Chatter running. The first time I used this app, I was standing in a parking lot talking to my bandmates about a trip we were getting ready to take. We were trying to figure out how far this town was, so I whipped out the laptop, and the Treo and within about 3 minutes later, we have plotted a route through mapquest! I have also used it to update this site! I have ftp'ed photos from my laptop to this site. I guess what really makes it so nice is that its so simple and has been a very reliable app for me on those rare times that I have needed to use it! Its available for both the Palm and the WM platform! You can check it out here if you would like.
