Roku Digital box Remember the VCR? And which format did you own? VHS or Beta? And then came the DVD!  We have a few of those around our house. And recently I have been heading over to Hulu's website and streaming a few choice shows to my computer. And my wife and I decided to join the Netflix revolution and included with the DVD's that they mail to the house, we can stream about 12,000 movies to our computers!  Very cool!  But what about our Televisions that include HD, and killer sound systems?

Introducing Roku!  I am betting that this little box is about to appear in almost every den in America!Hook it to your TV and make sure you have a good wireless signal and you are in Business!  This box is compatable with Netflix, but don't think that Amazon hasn't taken notice! They are soon to announce an HD streaming service where you will be able to order video on demand!  Right through this little $99 wonder of a black box!

Look for Playstation, Xbox and Wii to very soon tout the same abilities! Pricing structures aren't cut in stone but even in this economy, if you rent more than 4 movies per month, I am betting netflix current service of $18.00 per month would save you money and this service basically is "all you can eat" streaming per month with more and more movies added all the time. I look for other players soon to get into this game! I wouldn't be surprised to see Apple offer something through iTunes with iMovie, where they partner with players in Hollywood much like they have with music companies. One thing is for certain: Pointing to a movie and having it start playing is a whole lot better than going to the local video store, picking out a few selections, bringing them home watching them, only to return them, sometimes with late fees! I am confident to say the way we watch movies as a nation is about to change!

As I write this, we are sitting at an airport terminal in Colorado Springs. We have a full day of planes, airports, layovers, etc. Saying goodbye to Eric is the easiest it's ever been! We know that in about 26 days, we get to see him once more and for a while. i will update the mobile photo section of this site as the day goes forward. Looking forward to getting home to Bo.

Today was pretty much a repeat of Day Four! With a shopping twist!  We got cleaned up and went to one of the Biggest Dick's sporting goods stores I have ever seen.  I wanted to go drool on some Kayaks!  The honest truth, Kingsport, TN's Dicks has a much larger Kayak selection in store.  On the other hand, this particular Dick's had a huge area dedicated to snow slopes!  I am not sure Kingsport's store even carries skies. While I drooled on the Kayaks and the camping gear, Eric picked up a new pair of shoes and some socks.

After Dick's, we wondered over to Bestbuy, (hey it was next door to Dick's) and I picked up an SD card for a small camera I sometimes carry. Eric puchased an adaptor to play his two iPods in his car.  Then we headed to a place called "Old Chicago" for lunch!  Great little Italian place!  Then, it wouldn't be a shopping trip without a stop at Walmart.  I bought a couple of shirts, Eric bought more socks, and Jane Ann picked up some cards.

Eric had to run to the base and Jane Ann wanted to pick up some "Army" stuff so she went along.  I stayed in the room and napped. The rest of the evening was spent just hanging out and being family!  Good time!

We didn't venture far from the room on this day.  Eric and I left the Hotel twice and Jane Ann once. We ordered Pizza and watched the Daytona 500, and then headed to the Red Robin Burger Joint for supper. Later on, we ordered a movie to the room (Step Brothers) and really just spent most of the day talking and laughing!

We are in a very nice Hampton Inn. We haven't taken advantage of the pool, but have the excersize room two days in a row now. I climbed on the stationary bike, rode three miles, and climbed off with very woobly legs! :) We have also talked computers as the one we bought Eric 3 years ago is really showing it's age!  He has his eyes on a gateway super gaming machine at the local bestbuy. I am trying to talk him into waiting until July or August of this year when I expect Windows 7 OS to be released, but the boy has been in Iraq for 15 months, with a pocket full of money, and he is itching to spend it on something rather large.

We are located on the west side of this Hotel. So when we walk out of our room, this is typical of the views that greet us:

A very quiet day today!  We did do a little shopping for Eric.  Yea, Eric is so proud of his new iPhone. It rocks!  The honest truth, I don't think it has been out of his hands since he left the AT&T store with it!  As I write this, he is playing with 'iFart'.  He really, really likes the new toy!  I have set him up on Twitter.  Now to nudge him into updating every now and then.  No real pics to speak of today, which I regret!  This morning we woke up to a beautiful snow kissed area.  The white within the trees was just beautiful.  Wish I would have grabbed my camera and played photographer.  What is on tap for tomorrow? Well, we will probably watch the Daytona 500.  Typical East Tennessee red-neck thing to do while in Colorado.  I am beat. Calling it an early night!  Hopefully, tomorrow the cameras will come out.

So after an exhausting day, we were slow to move around this morning.  I woke up early, and headed to the breakfast bar.  I ate it there and then fixed Jane Ann a plate and took back to her. I then fell back asleep, and Jane Ann woke me and said, it's time to go!  Well, about the time we hit the road, we saw 5 buses being escorted by the Colorado Springs Police!  Sure enough it was Eric, so we just turned around and followed the parade. It was a fun reunion and as I write this, Eric is drinking a beer, and we are dicussing what he is in the mood for dinner wise.  I am pulling for steak myself, but with this guy, it might be mexican, Italian, or even just MickieD's. It's his choice, that is for certain.  Here are the pics to this point!  Will post more tomorrow.

Thats right Boys and Girls!  YouTube has re-worked their mobile site and now videos play within the Palm OS!  No special software to install or anything like that!  Just head over to http://m.youtube.com and click on something, give it a chance to buffer and enjoy!  I can't believe it!  When I saw the news, I figured it meant that it would work with some mobiles.  Certainly not Palm OS mobiles since Java is required and and we all know how much Blazier supports Java! But it launched Kinoma player and the next thing I know, I am watching Video streamed to my Palm!  Tell the World!  Shout it from the mountain tops! I have watched three videos now . .  One did time out, but I relaunched it and it worked!

I am a middle aged guy who finds much pleasure in today's technology.  Once upon a time I kept a blog about mobile tech, a web site that featured my bike rides, and then a personal site where I shared photos and videos, basically of Family.  After a time, I decided it made much more sense to combine all those sites into one.  But what to call it?  Well, not very creatively, this site became "just duke".  Just stuff I am interested in and try to follow.

By day I work for a large chemical company, and by night I play bass in a Christian Rock band. But every day I check out the web sites following the trends around mobile devices.  When I have time, I enjoy designing Templates for Joomla and Wordpress. You can download those here on this site!
