With Christmas coming on, I have been swamped. Of course, its that time of year when everyone is wide open, but on top of that, I took on a new web project. I think the template is getting close. You can check it out here: Preaching Christ Church. As always, each site presents its own problems. This one is no different. But I think its starting to happen. If I can only get the scripted menus to work in IE, I will be happy! OK, back to it!

So I vented here the other day about a way to get Office Enterprise for very cheap! And after I installed Microsoft's spyware on my system, no email about getting the software . . So I quickly deleted the software and went about life. But I had forgotten that long ago, I got a memo at work about a Microsoft partner program where I could get Office 2007 Enterprise for my home system for a low price of $29.00. I did a quick search from work and jumped all over it! Well, it came this week! I installed it and I must say, Microsoft, job well done! Did I just say that? Office Enterprise really is a very nice suite! Sure, you can fuss about price as paying retail is some serious back pocket weight, but its a great improvement over OE2003 and Outlook alone is worth something to me! Its so much nicer than Express in older versions and now "mail" in Vista! I especially like the RSS ability built right in to Outlook! Excel is taking some getting used to, and its not compatible with my old version os Adobe Acrobat. I will have to deal with that soon, but I must say, that I am very satisfied with this version. Of course, I picked up some bloat. For example, access is something I don't really use ever as well as Groove and Infopath, but who is to say I won't have cause for these apps in the future? I happily deleted Office 2003 and am really enjoying the new suite! Yea, I can fuss about Vista, and about Microsoft being big brother but this is one suite tied together that really is the cream of the crop!

So I vented here a few days ago about the Wife's Treo being DOA. Just to let you know, it was a nightmare getting someone at AT&T but we THINK we have another on the way. Since I am writing this early Sunday and tomorrow is Christmas eve, I think its safe to say, it won't arrive until after Christmas! Don't tell the wife, but she ain't getting jewelry for Christmas! No, in fact, here is what she is getting! SSSSHHHHHH! Its Christmas and I am betting she won't read this until after its over . . . She once told me not to buy her anything that she had to plug up! Good thing I don't listen, huh?

Configuring GMail for the Treo in Chatter |

I have seen in many Treo forums how to set up your GMail account in Versamail, but not in Chatter. I don't know if its a problem or not, because I set mine up when I first installed Chatter. It worked, and I never thought anything about whether or not it might not be a standard. And the truth: I rarely use my GMail account period! But with that in mind, I thought I would document just how I have it configured in Chatteremail. NOTE: for this to work, you will need to go to your GMail account and activate the POP settings. So with Chatter open, you'll want to head to menu/new account. Tap on the dropdown menu and select "Generic POP3 Account", Then start filling in the blanks as I have shown below. Yea, we got our tree up, but here is something I hope I don't find underneath mine come Christmas Morning. Whoever thinks of this stuff has got to be on drugs! These are USB boots! And ugly ones at that! So let me get this straight, I hook up my USB boots, which is my laptop, and start to drink my coffee. OOOPPPPSSSS! I need a bathroom break! Double OOOPPPPPSSSSSSS! I am four feet from my laptop, but everywhere I go, my laptop is 4 feet behind me because I am dragging it to the bathroom with me! If there was an award for worst tech gadget ever made, this one I am sure would be in the top twenty.

From the who would have thunk it dept. I find this amazing! This guy took an Eee PC that runs a linux OS by the way, and then customized a copy of Vista, dropped it on his thumb drive after getting rid of all the bloat he could and successfully installed Vista on the 8 gig flash drive! Amazing! And I still say it! One of those Eee PC's are probably in my future!

I don't know why but I always get nervous when I upgrade the firmware on my Treo. It usually is done and without a hitch in 20 minutes. But for 20 minutes my Palms are sweaty! (no pun intended) So today I took the plunge. Since I recently upgraded to Windows Vista, I figured there might be new rules and there were. I needed to do all my upgrading from a blank SD card. I just happened to have a brand new one! So I took the upgrade from palm and dropped it on my computer and then copied the unzipped file to the new SD card. On with the show! After a few nervous minutes the Treo was booted back and I swapped cards to return my Treo to my Treo! To read the step by step, hit the read more link at the bottom:

Since we can't depend upon Time Magazine to pick a deserving person of the year, I thought I should help them "eliminate" a few. Time, when you go to pick who that person or object should be, let me go ahead and mark off any of the ones below, because they aren't deserving. Sometimes for Multiple reasons. | Britney Spears | Lindsey Lohann | Paris Hilton | Anyone who has been seen in public with Paris Hilton
| Cindy Shehan | Jessee Jackson
| Al Sharpton | Anyone who makes their living in Hollywood
| Hugo Chavez
| Osama Bin Laden
| Sadam | Anyone who murders in the name of Alla
| Rogers Clemins | Bud Selig | Barry Bonds
| Anyone who plays professional Baseball
| George Bush
| Hillary Clinton | Barack Obama
| Anyone who makes their living in Washington DC
| OJ Simpson
| Drew Peterson | Robert Hawkins | Anyone who has been in the news for murdering someone |

News Briefs |
|
The 37-year-old Chinese woman wasn't particularly stoked about her husband walking out on their marriage, so she did the only reasonable thing that presented itself: rounded up the entire stock of more than 400 phones the couple had at their joint-owned cellphone shop, and set the entire lot ablaze -- inside her home. The collection was valued at roughly 300,000 yuan, about $42,000 US. |

About Me |
|
I am a middle aged guy who finds much pleasure in today's technology. Once upon a time I kept a blog about mobile tech, a web site that featured my bike rides, and then a personal site where I shared photos and videos, basically of Family. After a time, I decided it made much more sense to combine all those sites into one. But what to call it? Well, not very creatively, this site became "just duke". Just stuff I am interested in and try to follow. By day I work for a large chemical company, and by night I play bass in a Christian Rock band. But every day I check out the web sites following the trends around mobile devices. When I have time, I enjoy designing Templates for Joomla and Wordpress. You can download those here on this site! Just click on "Just Templates on the left. |
