Homer: When I first heard that Marge was joining the police academy, I thought it would be fun and zany, like that movie -- Spaceballs. But instead it was dark and disturbing like that movie, Police Academy.

In the counsels of Government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the Military Industrial Complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists, and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes.

Google is calling a press conference January 5th to reveal what most are calling the "GooglePhone".  This phone has been spoted on the net and confirmed by a few Google Employees, who were given the phone a few weeks ago in what Google called a Mobile Lab.  The questions most of us have is what will this phone offer that current Android based phones won't offer? Below is the Purchase pricing that has recently leaked onto the web. Click to enlarge.

According to the pages, the phone will be available in two ways: as a $529.99 unsubsidized and unlocked device, and as a $179.99 T-Mobile device locked to a two year contract. Sound familiar? It should, because it's exactly the same story as every other phone available on the market right now. Additionally, the pics seem to suggest that there will only be one plan available should you get the device on contract -- 500 minutes of talk time, unlimited text, data, and mobile to mobile for $79.99 -- which happens to exactly equal what you'd pay for a T-Mobile Even More 500 plan with unlimited smartphone data and unlimited messaging, so that means there's no bogus premium here. And then there is the personalization option. You'll be able to get the phone engraved on a metallic bar on the back of the device.

So does this mean, that you can purchase this phone unlocked from T-mobile and slam your AT&T sim card in it? Yes, however, it looks as though this phone only supports EDGE data streams and not AT&T's faster 3G data. What I do believe, is that this cell phone is the first of many "Google Phones" to come that will challenge carrier model. I am guessing that you will be able to purchase this phone unlocked from several different places, like Best Buy, Amazon, etc.  But there are many questions that remain. I know I for one, will be tuning in come January 5th to learn just what Google has planned for this new direction!
