Packing for Colorado PDF Print E-mail

Digg!

So today I am packing to head out to Colorado to spend a few days with my Son before he leaves for Iraq! I am very much looking forward to hanging out with him as its hard to say when I might get to see him again.  I have been using my Treo to generate a list of what all I need to pack.  On the list is a very heavy coat!  I have been checking the temperatures the last few days for Colorado Springs . . . Overnight lows of 17 and snow has been common the last 4 days! That and a scarf.  I had this bright idea that I could pack everything I needed into a laptop bag . . WRONG!  After two pair of jeans, 5 pair of underwear and socks, the laptop, two cameras, and a couple of chargers, my bag was almost stuffed, and I still lacked shirts, tolietries and other items . . .   So I guess I will be taking two bags now . . .

I am hoping to sell my Son on Skype!  I downloaded it long ago, but never really got into it!  But knowing that I would be out there with my Son, my wife would be back at home, I thought it would be a great way to show my Son just how handy such software could be on his on computer in Iraq!  Since I have it up and running on the laptop, I installed it on the home PC and tested it out this morning!  I really am impressed with Skype and its sound quality and find it as an inexpensive way to communicate with persons either in town, or on the other side of the World.  Look for an update on this software soon!

Anyway, I head out this coming Wed and am looking forward to a fun filled trip to see my Son off before he leaves for 15 months! As much as I am looking forward to seeing him, I am dreading the trip home.  I am driving his car back to store until he returns . . . one thousand, four hundred and thirteen miles!  Yea, I have checked! So I keep telling myself, that I will take my time and check out some country that I haven't seen much of . . But I know me . . I am afraid that once I am pointed in the direction of home, my goal will become to get there . . .   But with the mobile picture blog back up and running, as well as this site, look for daily updates as I share pictures and more with the world . . .  Remember, I have packed two cameras (a mini-DVD and a Canon Digital Camera and will probably even pack a third Camera.  I haven't made up my mind yet . . Either an HP or a Canon Point and Shoot.  I just like having the ability to whip out a small camera, grab a shot and slam it back in my pocket.  I can't do that with a Canon S3, and the Treo just doesn't have the ability to do more than a grainy, dark, 640 X480 pitiful pixel shot . . .

So its back to planning my Trip!  Lets see, I still haven't figured out which shirts to take . . . . . .

Word Circuilating on the net, is that the internal code name for Palm's next generation OS is Nova. The current release schedule being discussed by Palm management is to announce and get Nova out to developers in some form later this calendar year. Reports from inside the company is that Nova is presently being demoed and tested internally on an unreleased future Palm device code-named Zeppelin.Statements indicate that Palm will be making some partner and developer announcements around Nova later in 2008. The earliest estimates for when it will actually ship on new Palm hardware is currently February 2009.

I am a middle aged guy who finds much pleasure in today's technology.  Once upon a time I kept a blog about mobile tech, a web site that featured my bike rides, and then a personal site where I shared photos and videos, basically of Family.  After a time, I decided it made much more sense to combine all those sites into one.  But what to call it?  Well, not very creatively, this site became "just duke".  Just stuff I am interested in and try to follow.

By day I work for a large chemical company, and by night I play bass in a Christian Rock band. But every day I check out the web sites following the trends around mobile devices.  When I have time, I enjoy designing Templates for Joomla and Wordpress. You can download those here on this site!
