Day 4 with Eric in Colorado PDF Print E-mail

Digg!

So as predicted the day started out pretty slow.  Eric really didn't want to do much.  As we planned on my first day here, we decided to watch the Tennessee/LSU football game.  So we pretty much just laid around the hotel room.  Lots of phone calls were taking place.  A lot of Eric's friends from back home were calling him, along with calls from family.  He went back through his back pack that was basically where his personal stuff is sitting. Some movies and games, as well as a CD player and his laptop.  This will stick with him for his entire journey to Iraq.  Most other stuff has already been shipped and is waiting on him.

We ate lunch at a Chili's.  Eric drank what should be his last beer for several months, and we headed back to the hotel to watch the game.  We couldn't stay for the ending however,  and headed to the base.  It was a sad time as there were several families there saying goodbye to their kids, husbands, brothers and sisters.  War is certainly hell.  Hell on the troups and their families. They fell into line for a quick roll call.  The best I could tell, no one was A-wall.  Then, a big line formed for the issuing of weapons.  This was a painful time, as it took forever.  In fact, everyone was supposed to be in the gym by 8:30, but when 8:30 came, there was probably still 20 in line waiting to get their weapons. It did give me time to meet a lot of Eric's army buds, and hear a few stories.  All seemed to be super nice and I must say that Eric has some great friends in the Army.

So I am back now at the hotel room.  Its suddenly very big . . very quiet, and very empty.  And fittingly, its raining outside. I will leave out early in the morning for my drive back.  Expect the mobile blog page to get active again, as its much easier to dump pictures and small text from my Treo as it is to open the laptop and log on to a net hot spot, or hook up the treo, etc. . . .  Depending on where I end up staying the night, this might be the last update to this page for a couple of days. . . I just don't know where I will land tomorrow night and don't know how I will feel about updating this trip.  Below are pics that I took today.

I am a middle aged guy who finds much pleasure in today's technology.  Once upon a time I kept a blog about mobile tech, a web site that featured my bike rides, and then a personal site where I shared photos and videos, basically of Family.  After a time, I decided it made much more sense to combine all those sites into one.  But what to call it?  Well, not very creatively, this site became "just duke".  Just stuff I am interested in and try to follow.

By day I work for a large chemical company, and by night I play bass in a Christian Rock band. But every day I check out the web sites following the trends around mobile devices.  When I have time, I enjoy designing Templates for Joomla and Wordpress. You can download those here on this site!
