So yesterday I was driving down the road when my Treo’s email went off! The title said I had been tagged! It was from May over at Palm Discovery! It seems that Matt who is also known as Palmsolo and the mobile gadgeteer had tagged her and one his buds had tagged him! The idea of this thing is that I am to write 5 things about me that you might not know, and then “Tag” 5 more people so that they will do the same! Now I blog mainly about tech stuff and offer my opinions, but I do from time to time, talk about other things in my life, so I figured I would really try to pick things that I have never talked about here . . . . So without further ado . . . . ________________________________________ 1. I was born Rh negative (bluebaby) and almost died. Obviously I don’t remember any of this, but my birthday has always been a special occasion for my family because I really wasn’t expected to live. You never hear of this condition any more, and I really don’t know why but other than the fact that I am an idiot, there were really no side effects . . . . . . 2. I LOVE bicycles! I spent my childhood on a Schwinn StingRay, and a Unicycle. I kept the Schwinn on its rear wheel all the time anyway, so the unicyle was an obvious step. I still yet to this day, get it out, pump up the tire and ride it around just to prove to myself that I still can. When I was younger I would put my buddies on my shoulders and “double-head” them. Of course, I have double-headed my wife and my children. (not lately) Actually, it was a different time then, but I traveled some pretty great distances in a day’s time. When I got my first car (at thirteen because I had a paper route and although I couldn’t drive it, I had the money to buy it so I did) that only curbed my two wheel fascination for a few years because not long after I got married, I started looking for a good bike once more. Currently, I have three bikes. All Cannondales, two are touring bikes. But one of those has been converted into my version of the ultimate commuter bike. I can carry panniers (saddlebags to you non-cyclists ) and even a trailer for hauling groceries. I have invested more money in a lighting system for my commuter bike than what a lot of people would spend to buy a bicycle! I try to take a week long bicycle tour every year, but band obligations these last few years have put that one on the back burner the last couple . . I have ridden the C&O Canal twice, and also the Natchez Trace. I hope one day to ride my bike across the United States! I have gone so far to study maps and plan logistics! I will probably do it solo and plan to finish in 60-65 days. . . . . . 3. I have an adopted Son! Man, this one is a long story, so I will try to be brief . . One day, my son brought a friend of a friend home with him. The boy asked to stay with us for a few days. It turns out his mother (a real piece of work, let me tell you) was trying to have him arrested for something he didn’t do, but that was her way of getting him to do what she wanted him to . (like I said, a real piece of work) So we called his mother to let her know that he would be staying with us for 2 or 3 days until everyone calmed down, but she told us that ‘the Godda–ed Son of a Bi— was 17 and she didn’t want him anymore, that if we wanted to we could keep the Godda–ed Motherf—er, and long story, short, we ended up taking legal custody. This has been a real challenge . . . . We have been through drug addiction, rehabs, insurance nightmares, and more with this kid . . . He is now 23, and as I write this, is living with us again. Drug-free, but still some issues. At the moment, he is attending church with us, and seems to have his head on pretty straight. If you believe in God, please pray for this boy, because you can’t believe the hell he has been through. And believe me, I gave you the very condensed, very sanitary story. 4. I am an accomplished swimmer! I spent four summers lifeguarding at a local swimming pool! Some of the best days of my life! Honestly, Mitch Bucanon (Baywatch) is my hero! If I could be lifeguarding in my late 40’s surrounded by women with perfect bodies, and live in a house like he lived in, drove the vehicles he drove? Yea, man, make fun all you want! That would be my fantasy! I mean I was paid to sit in a chair and soak up sun and watch people swim! Its where I met a girl who would one day become my wife! No, it wasn’t always fun and games! I did things like clean toilets and filters. And I honestly saved five lives! None of them required mouth to mouth or the such, but all five were drowning when I went in to get them! I was on my high-school swim team and was killer in a sprint and not bad in the 200. I also loved the diving board. I made a 3 1/2 on the three meter and a double gainer. But I actually got to where I could jump off the 3 meter and take my swim trunks off before I hit the water! (I only did that one at private swim parties, and I told you in #1 that I am an idiot!) 5. I play bass for Exit 33 OK, so you if you read this blog you might know that one . . If you don’t read this blog, Exit 33 is a Christian based Rock and Blues Band. We usually get asked what the Biblical Significance of our name is, so if you knew I played bass, maybe you can still learn something new. . . . . . . . According to Biblical Scholars, Jesus was 33 years old when he “exited” this world . . . . We have pretty much done it all in this region. We have gone into Honky Tonk Bars with Panties and Bras hanging from the ceiling and sang songs about Jesus dieing on the cross and the whole time we have a crowd of drunks screaming “Raise Hell” and “Hell Yea”, we have played festivals, Christian based coffee houses, and even led worship in Churches on Sundays! All our songs are original, written by us. We just finished our second CD called “the journey“. We got our start as a Prison Ministry. We just got together one night to jam, and were talking about where to take this type of music, and one of the guys suggested that we go in with his church to one of the local prisons. So we put together about 8 songs to take to the prisons to share the word of God with them. This just opened up doors like crazy! People who went in with us, would say, “hey, we are having this fund raiser, and we were wondering if you guys could come and play” . . . . . . . The next thing we knew, we were a band, and doors just keep opening. We have opened for FFH and the Lee Boys. More importantly, we have shared the love of Christ with many people throughout the region over the last 5 years.
