The wife's new Treo is scheduled to arrive tomorrow!  I am more excited than she is!  I can't wait to set it up, and see what I can do to help her out with the software she needs as well as hold her hand teaching her how powerful this device is, and just what all it can do to help her out!  The Crimson color should easily distinguish her Treo from his graphite one!

Lets see . . .  Treo Alarm is a must!  Boopsie will be coming at her! TCMP for her entertainment pleasure! GoogleMaps for sure! Group Text messaging for quick IM's to the family! Obsfucate to hide wasted icons like Quicktour!  Minitunes for her special ringtones!  Then we will move into the purchased software!  I am betting that Scrabble will be at the top of her list!

    Oh, I can't wait, I can't wait!!!!

I found this one over at EverythingTreo!  If your wondering what Cell Service is, in a particular area, go here and type in the address.  It will come back showing you what is available within a 4 mile radius. It breaks it down into 100′ towers, 200′ towers and towers with multiple antennas, along with who owns them!  When looking for a particular carrier, this could be very valuable information . .

I have been accepted to be a reviewer for Everything Treo!  Software and Hardware!  Very, Very cool!  I have enjoyed very much reviewing and sharing applications on my blog!  But I have also enjoyed hanging out over at Everything Treo and sharing what all I have learned.  This made it easy to agree to open editing and also not to share anywhere other than Everything Treo.  In other words, it your interested in reading what I have written, you will have to visit Everything Treo but I might be able to tip you off as to its location here or on my blog!  I am very much looking forward to my new role.   I have been asked to be “fair and Balanced”.  Time will tell if I really can be . . . .  Anyway, I am excited and wanted to share the news here.  I have been testing some software for developers and have signed non-disclosure agreements, however this should be a little better in that I recieve it, test it, write about the positives and the negatives knowing that what I write will have an impact on consumer purchases!  As much as I love the Treo, this one is right up my alley!

I don’t plan on abandoning this blog however.  I know that posts for the last few weeks have been sparse, but I really have been busy.  Look for several posts in the near future covering just what all I have been doing. And I don’t think that I will be seeing so many apps and Treo Hardware that I won’t have time to talk about my Experiences with my Treo and other aspects of my life . . .  Again, let me encourage you to visit Everything Treo and the very friendly forums.  Its a great place to learn about and get the most out of your Treo device!

    The Canon S3 ROCKS!

So for a year now, I have been using the Canon S3!  I am guessing that with Christmas right around the corner, there will be several Digital cameras going out the retail doors so I thought I would post this review. Why?  Because the S5 is out and it looks to be even better than the S3!  What the S3 is, is a great camera that shares a lot of Digital SLR features.  What it isn’t is portable enough to drop in a shirt pocket.  What it does do, is take great pictures!

And the honest truth is, it takes a killer video too! I was totally blown away by the video ability of this camera!  I dropped a high speed 2 gig card in it, and haven’t looked back!  Maybe at some point, I will add another 2 gig card to my collection, but to this point, I haven’t needed it.  By the way, if you look at the above picture, you will notice two microphones on the camera . . This allows you to actually record sound in stereo!  The 12X Zoom is pretty fast to focus when you are tweaking it.  The viewfinder is pretty good in very sunny weather.  But it can be just a little slow to catch up to camera movement

And the LCD Viewfinder is very awesome! The fact that it swivels serves as a way to protect it by closing it when not in use, but also allows you to say, hold the Camera over your head, but to position the viewfinder at an angle where you can actually take a picture and see what you are doing!

This camera can take killer photos as a point and shoot, but it has enough buttons right on the camera itself for a person to get very creative without having to scroll through several menu screens.  Of course, if you want to fine-tune one of these settings, you can access the menu, but the S3 seems to be intuitive enough to where you won’t spend minutes getting that setting that happened seconds ago.

I like the way the S3 feels in my hands!  Its heavy!  But its also big enough to where you can actually hold it next to your body to steady it to grab some great shots!  Battery life is really excellent as well!  If your looking for something almost as good as a Digital SLR, that is about half the price, you really owe it to yourself to check this one out. I spent quite a bit of time over at dpreview before deciding on this one.  If your looking for a great camera to stick in your pocket, this one isn’t it, however . . .

    News Briefs

The 37-year-old Chinese woman wasn't particularly stoked about her husband walking out on their marriage, so she did the only reasonable thing that presented itself: rounded up the entire stock of more than 400 phones the couple had at their joint-owned cellphone shop, and set the entire lot ablaze -- inside her home. The collection was valued at roughly 300,000 yuan, about $42,000 US.

I am a middle aged guy who finds much pleasure in today's technology.  Once upon a time I kept a blog about mobile tech, a web site that featured my bike rides, and then a personal site where I shared photos and videos, basically of Family.  After a time, I decided it made much more sense to combine all those sites into one.  But what to call it?  Well, not very creatively, this site became "just duke".  Just stuff I am interested in and try to follow.

By day I work for a large chemical company, and by night I play bass in a Christian Rock band. But every day I check out the web sites following the trends around mobile devices.  When I have time, I enjoy designing Templates for Joomla and Wordpress. You can download those here on this site!
